CARBIMAZOLE/NEO-MERCAZOLE TABLET
Why do you need this medication?
NEO-MERCAZOLE contains the active ingredient Carbimazole. It is used to reduce the formation of thyroid hormones in people with an over-active thyroid gland, a condition known as hyperthyroidism. It may be used alone or in combination with other treatments. This medicine may also be used to restore the normal function of the thyroid before its partial removal by surgery and before and after radio-active iodine treatment.

You doctor, however, may have prescribed NEO-MERCAZOLE for another purpose.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT
Each tablet of NEO-MERCAZOLE contains carbimazole 5mg

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not take NEO-MERCAZOLE if:
You have had an allergic reaction to this medicine or any ingredients of this medicine
You have a serious blood condition
You have a severe liver condition
You have swelling on the neck caused by enlargement of the thyroid gland
You had inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis) after administration of carbimazole or thiamazole in the past

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Follow all direction given to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully.
Take NEO-MERCAZOLE exactly as your doctor has prescribed
The usual adult starting dose is four to twelve 5mg tablets each day, in divided doses.
For children, the usual starting dose is three 5mg tablets each day, in divided doses.
Once control is achieved, your doctor may gradually reduce your dose. The usual maintenance dose is two to three 5mg tablets each day.

ADDED INFORMATION
Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water or other liquid
Take this medication at about the same time each day.
This medication may be taken with or without food.

WARNING
Do not stop taking NEO-MERCAZOLE or change the dose without first checking with your doctor
Do not give this medication to anyone else even if they have the same conditions as you.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea, headache, painful joints, stomach upset, skin reaches, itching, allergic reactions, swelling of lymph nodes, dizziness, nerve pain, loss of taste, vomiting.

STORAGE
Keep your tablets in the bottle until it is time to take them.
Keep in a cool dry place where temperature stays below 25°C.
Do not store it or any other medicine in a bathroom or near a sink.
