CEFOTAXIME INJ 1G AMP

Why do you need to give this medicine? This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections and for surgical prophylaxis.

INGREDIENTS

Each vial contains 1g of cefotaxime sodium

ADDED INFORMATION

Each vial contains 50mg of sodium per 1g dose

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Known allergy to cephalosporins

Known allergy to lidocaine

DOSAGE

Adults and children over 12:

1g every 12 hours

Max dose is 12g

For treatment of gonorrhea: 500mg single dose

Infants and children 12 and below:

50-100mg/kg body weight in two divided doses

Max dose is 6g

Newborns:

Max dose: 50mg/kg body weight

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS 

This drug may cause pain at the injection site, nausea, vomiting and abdominal discomfort. Rarely, angioedema, pruritus or rash may occur. Report to the pharmacist or physician if side effects worsen or last more than a few days.

May be present in breastmilk
