It is used in adults to treat the following bacterial infections: respiratory tract infections, long-lasting or recurring ear or sinus infections, urinary tract infections, infections of the testicles, genital organ infections in women, gastrointestinal tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections. It is also used to treat infections in patients with a very low white blood cell count (neutropenia), prevent infections in patients with a very low white blood cell count (neutropenia), prevent infections due to the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis, and treat anthrax inhalation exposure.
INGREDIENTS
Each 5ml after reconstitution contains 250mg of ciprofloxacin                            Â
ADDED INFORMATION
Do not use if you are allergic to any of these ingredients.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to quinolones.
Concurrent use with tizanidine.
DOSAGE
For acute pyelonephritis and UTIs: 500mg twice daily
For secondary prevention of meningococcal meningitis:Â
Adults and children greater than 12: 500mg for 1 dose
Children 5-11 years: 250mg for 1 dose
Child 1months – 4 years: 30mg/kg (Max per dose 125mg)
General infections: 500mg twice daily, can be increased to 750mg twice daily in severe infections
For surgical prophylaxis: 750mg 60 minutes before procedure.Â
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
This drug may cause nausea, diarrhea, joint pains in children, hyperactivity or agitation, headache, dizziness, sleeping problems, or taste disorders. Report to the pharmacist or physician if side effects worsen or last more than a few days.
WARNING
If you are taking Ciprofloxacin, make sure to take it with meals. Avoid consuming dairy products (like milk or yogurt) or beverages containing calcium when taking the tablets, as they can interfere with the absorption of the medication. If your symptoms continue, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
