Excinate tablet contains Cefuroxime. Cefuroxime is an antibiotic which belongs to a group of antibiotics that are called Cephalosporins. These types of antibiotics are similar to penincillin. Cefuroxime kills bacteria and it can be used against various sorts of infections. Like all antibiotics Cefuroxime is only effective against some types of bacteria. Cefuroxime can be used to treat infections of the throat, sinus, middle ear, the lungs or chest, urinary tract, the skin and soft tissues.

Why do you need to give this medicine? Excinate tablet contains Cefuroxime. Cefuroxime is an antibiotic which belongs to a group of antibiotics that are called Cephalosporins. These types of antibiotics are similar to penincillin. Cefuroxime kills bacteria and it can be used against various sorts of infections. Like all antibiotics Cefuroxime is only effective against some types of bacteria. Cefuroxime can be used to treat infections of the throat, sinus, middle ear, the lungs or chest, urinary tract, the skin and soft tissues.

INGREDIENTS

Each tablet contains Cefuroxime axetil USP equivalent to 250 mg of Cefuroxime.

ADDED INFORMATION

Excinate also contains other ingredients; microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, sodium lauryl sulphate, colloidal anhydrous silica, calcium stearate, calcium carbonate, crospovidone type A, Hypromellose E464, titanium dioxide E171, propylene glycol E1520, FD & C blue no.1 aluminium lake E133. Excinate (Cefuroxime) tablets is not recommended for children aged under 3 months, as the safety and effectiveness are not known in this age group. You must look out for certain symptoms such as allergic reactions, fungal infections (such as candida) and severe diarrhoea (pseudomembranous colitis) while you are taking this medicine. Cefuroxime tablets can affect the results of a test for blood sugar levels, or a blood screen called Coombs test.

DOSAGE

Adult: 250-500 mg twice daily depending on the severity and type of infection

Children: 10 mg/kg (to a maximum of 125 mg) to 15 mg/kg (to a maximum of 250 mg) twice daily depending on the severity of the infection.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS 

  • Allergic reactions include; skin rash, fungal infections, severe diarrhoea (Pseudomembranous colitis), Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. NB: contact a doctor immediately if you get any of these symptoms
  • Common side effects: malaise, skin rashes, abdominal pain, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, vulvovaginal candidiasis, headache, diarrhoea
  • Uncommon; anaphylactic reaction, angioedema
  • Rare or very rare: agranulocytosis, haemolytic anaemia, severe cutaneous adverse reactions.

PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

  • Space the doses evenly throughout the day.
  • Take this medicine after food.
  • Swallow tablet whole with water, do not crush, chew or split the tablets.
  • Keep taking this medicine until the course is finished, unless you are told to stop.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics
  • Cefuroxime tablets may reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill. If you are taking contraceptive pill while you are being treated with Cefuroxime tablets, you also need to use a barrier method of contraception such as condom.

STORAGE

Store at 20°to 25°C. Keep Excinate tablets out of reach of children
