Flucloxacillin injection contains flucloxacillin sodium as an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is available as a sterile powder which needs to be reconstituted before injection.

Active Ingredient:
Flucloxacillin sodium

Indications:
Treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by flucloxacillin-sensitive organisms including skin infections, bone and joint infections, pneumonia, and sepsis when oral therapy is not possible.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to flucloxacillin, other penicillins or cephalosporins. Caution in liver dysfunction and history of jaundice associated with flucloxacillin.

Dosage:
Dose is dependent on the type and severity of infection. Usual dose is 250mg to 500mg injected every 6 hours, which may be increased up to 12 hourly injections in severe infections.

Added Information:
Should be injected slowly into a vein to avoid irritation and thrombophlebitis. Ensure adequate hydration.

Caution:
Use cautiously in elderly and kidney impairment. Monitor liver function. Care with other nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic drugs.

Side Effects:
Diarrhea, fungal overgrowth, nausea, jaundice, vomiting, rash, thrombophlebitis, liver toxicity.

Storage:
Store unopened vials at room temperature below 25°C in dry conditions. Reconstituted solution should be used immediately.
