Prescription:

  • Prescription required; consult a dermatologist or physician before use.

Therapeutic Category:

  • Topical antibiotic (lincosamide class) for acne treatment.

Active Ingredients/Composition:

  • Clindamycin Phosphate 1% w/v (equivalent to 10 mg clindamycin base per mL). Other ingredients: Isopropyl alcohol (solvent), propylene glycol, purified water, and preservatives (may include sodium hydroxide or citric acid for pH adjustment).

Variant:

  • Standard 1% topical solution in 25 ml bottle (some markets have 20 ml or 30 ml; Clindac A also available as gel or lotion in similar strength).

Consume Type:

  • Topical (external application to skin; not for oral, ocular, or intravaginal use).

Directions/Usage:

  • Clean and dry affected area. Apply a thin film of solution to the acne-affected skin (face, chest, back) twice daily (morning and evening), using fingertips or applicator. Avoid eyes, lips, nostrils, and mucous membranes. Wash hands after application. Use consistently for 8–12 weeks for noticeable improvement; do not stop abruptly. Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen (may increase photosensitivity).

Common Side Effects:

  • Dry skin, skin irritation (redness, peeling, burning, itching), oiliness, or mild stinging at application site. Rare: Diarrhea (systemic absorption), pseudomembranous colitis (severe abdominal pain, bloody stools), allergic reactions (rash, swelling), or gram-negative folliculitis. Discontinue and consult a doctor if severe irritation or gastrointestinal symptoms occur.

Package Type:

  • Plastic bottle with dropper or applicator cap (25 ml solution).

Storage Advice:

  • Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.

Safety Advice:

  • For external use only. Avoid broken, irritated, or sunburned skin. Do not apply near eyes, mouth, or inside nostrils. Not for use in patients with history of colitis or antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Use caution in pregnancy (Category B—limited data) and breastfeeding (minimal absorption, but consult doctor). May interact with other topical acne products (e.g., retinoids, benzoyl peroxide—use separately to avoid irritation). Avoid concurrent use of abrasive cleansers or strong drying agents. Report persistent diarrhea, severe skin reactions, or no improvement after 6–8 weeks.

  • Cleocin T Topical Solution (original brand)
  • Clindoxyl or Clindatech (combination with benzoyl peroxide)
  • Other topical clindamycin solutions or gels (1%). Consult a dermatologist for suitable alternatives.
