Maxitrol Eye Ointment is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial eye infections and inflammation of the eye.
Therapeutic class:
Ophthalmic steroid with Anti-infectives. It is a combination therapy of two antibiotics and a corticosteroid used to treat steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye where bacterial infection exists or is at high risk.
Consume Type:
Topical Ophthalmic Ointment. It is intended strictly for ocular use and must not be injected or swallowed.
Composition:
Each gram(g) of the sterile ointment contains:
Dexamethasone(0.1%)
Neomycin Sulfate
Polymyxin B Sulfate
It contains the same three active ingredients as the eye drops:
Dexamethasone: A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation.
Neomycin: An antibiotic that kills certain bacteria.
Polymyxin B: Another antibiotic that kills certain bacteria.
Indications:
Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids)
Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea)
Uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye)
Iritis (inflammation of the iris)
Contraindications:
Viral or fungal eye infections
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
Glaucoma
Cataracts
Corneal ulcer
Dosage:
Typically, a small amount applied to the affected eye(s) 3-4 times a day for 7-10 days.
Your doctor will determine the exact dosage and duration of treatment based on your individual condition.
Added information:
May cause side effects such as blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, and headache.
Should not be used for long periods without consulting your doctor.
