Respiratory / Bronchodilator — Short-acting β₂-agonist (SABA). 

Salbutamol (salbutamol sulfate or salt), equivalent to 5 mg in each nebuliser dose (commonly 5 mg in e.g. 2.5 mL) 

Inactive ingredients may include sterile water for injection, preservatives (e.g. benzalkonium chloride), pH adjusters, etc. (varies by brand) 

Inhalation via nebuliser (liquid mist inhaled through mask or mouthpiece) 

 A typical intermittent nebuliser dose for adults is 2.5 mg to 5 mg (i.e. 0.5 to 1 mL of a 5 mg/mL solution) diluted with sterile normal saline if needed. 

•  Use up to 4 times per day or as prescribed. 
•  Effects typically begin in 5 minutes, lasting ~4–6 hours. 
•  After use, discard unused solution and clean nebuliser apparatus thoroughly. 

Common Side Effects:

• Tremor / shaking
•  Headache
•  Palpitations / rapid heartbeat
•  Nervousness
•  Dizziness
•  Muscle cramps
•  Throat irritation
•  Hypokalemia (low potassium) in some cases
•  Rare: paradoxical bronchospasm

• Store at room temperature (as per product insert)
•  Protect from light
•  Do not freeze
•  Once opened, use promptly and discard leftover solution (to avoid contamination)
•  Keep out of reach of children

Safety Advice/Precautions:

• Contraindicated in those with known hypersensitivity to salbutamol or excipients
•  Use caution if patient has cardiovascular disease, arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, diabetes, or hypokalemia
•  Monitor in patients with renal or hepatic impairment
•  Avoid excessive use (risk of systemic side effects)
•  Nebulised mist should not get into eyes
•  Ensure proper nebuliser technique
•  If symptoms worsen or persist, seek medical advice
•  In COPD or asthma patients, overuse may signal worsening disease
•  Interactions: other sympathomimetics, beta-blockers, diuretics, etc
