Product description

Description:

Skderm Cream 30g  is a triple-action topical cream combining a corticosteroid, antifungal, and antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory, pruritic (itchy), and infected skin conditions, including symptomatic inflammatory tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), and other superficial bacterial/fungal skin infections with inflammation. It relieves redness, itching, swelling, and infection but carries risks of skin thinning, lightening, or dependency with misuse.

Prescription: Prescription-only (Rx) in regulated contexts due to the potent corticosteroid component (betamethasone). In Ghana and similar markets, it is often available over-the-counter or through pharmacies but should be used under medical supervision to avoid adverse effects like steroid misuse.

Therapeutic Category:

Topical corticosteroid + antifungal + antibiotic combination (dermatological anti-inflammatory, anti-infective, and antifungal preparation).

Active Ingredients/Composition:

  • Betamethasone dipropionate USP equivalent to betamethasone 0.05% w/w (medium-potency corticosteroid for inflammation and itching).
  • Clotrimazole BP 1.0% w/w (antifungal for dermatophyte and yeast infections).
  • Gentamicin sulfate BP equivalent to gentamicin base 0.1% w/w (topical antibiotic for bacterial infections). Preservative: Chlorocresol BP 0.1% w/w. Base: Cream base q.s. (white soft cream).

Vitamins: None.

Minerals: None.

Variant: Standard triple-action cream in 30g tube (also available in 15g in some markets; no major strength variants—fixed concentrations).

Consume Type:

Topical (external cream; apply to skin only, not ingested or for eyes/mucous membranes).

Directions/Usage: Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area 2-3 times daily (or as directed by a doctor), gently rubbing in until absorbed. Use for the shortest duration necessary (typically 7-14 days; do not exceed 2 weeks without medical advice to avoid steroid side effects). Wash hands after application unless treating hands. Do not cover with occlusive dressings unless advised (increases absorption/risk). For fungal infections, continue 1-2 weeks after symptoms clear to prevent recurrence. Consult a dermatologist for prolonged use or large areas.

Common Side Effects:

  • Local: Skin irritation, burning/stinging, dryness, redness (initially).
  • With prolonged use: Skin thinning/atrophy, striate (stretch marks), telangiectasia (visible blood vessels), hypopigmentation (skin lightening), acneiform eruptions, perioral dermatitis, increased infection risk.
  • Systemic absorption (rare with short-term use): Adrenal suppression, Cushing’s syndrome-like effects (if large amounts/large areas).
  • Other: Allergic contact dermatitis (rare). Side effects more likely with misuse (e.g., long-term for acne/lightening).

Package Type:

30g aluminium collapsible tube (internally lacquered with epoxy phenol; puncture nozzle seal with cap; often in carton box).

Storage Advice:

Store at room temperature (do not store above 30°C). Do not freeze. Keep tightly closed after use. Keep out of reach of children.

Safety Advice:

  • External use only; avoid eyes, mouth, mucous membranes, open wounds, or broken skin (unless advised).
  • Do not use for viral infections (e.g., herpes), acne/rosacea (may worsen), or long-term without supervision (risk of steroid dependency/withdrawal, thinning, rebound flare).
  • Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to components or untreated bacterial/fungal/viral skin infections without appropriate cover.
  • Caution in children (increased absorption risk), pregnancy/breastfeeding (use if benefits outweigh risks), or large areas (systemic effects).
  • Not for facial use long-term (high atrophy risk).
  • Stop if no improvement after 7 days or worsening (may indicate resistance/misdiagnosis).
  • Report severe irritation, thinning, or lightening to doctor—misuse for skin lightening is common but dangerous.

Product Substitutes: Other triple-action creams (betamethasone + clotrimazole + gentamicin) in Ghana: Generic versions (e.g., from various importers), Candiderma, Candid-B (clotrimazole + betamethasone), or similar like Quadriderm, Triderm. For milder cases: Betamethasone alone, clotrimazole alone, or gentamicin creams. Consult dermatologist for safer alternatives (e.g., hydrocortisone for inflammation, separate antifungals/antibiotics) to avoid combination risks.
