Solifenacin 10mg Tablet

Solifenacin 10mg Tablet

Solifenacin is a medication used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder (OAB) such as urinary urgency (a strong need to urinate), urinary frequency (needing to urinate often) and urge urinary incontinence (leakage) in adults.
It belongs to the antimuscarinic/antispasmodic class and works by relaxing the bladder muscle (detrusor), thereby increasing the amount of urine the bladder can hold and reducing involuntary contractions.

Product description

Description
Solifenacin is a medication used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder (OAB) such as urinary urgency (a strong need to urinate), urinary frequency (needing to urinate often) and urge urinary incontinence (leakage) in adults.
It belongs to the antimuscarinic/antispasmodic class and works by relaxing the bladder muscle (detrusor), thereby increasing the amount of urine the bladder can hold and reducing involuntary contractions.

 Prescription
Yes — it is a prescription-only medicine in most jurisdictions.

Therapeutic Category
Urinary antispasmodic / antimuscarinic agent used for overactive bladder and related urinary storage symptoms.

Active Ingredients / Composition

  • Active ingredient: Solifenacin succinate (equivalent to solifenacin) — each tablet 10 mg in the film-coated form.

Variant
Oral film-coated tablet strength 10 mg. (Also available in 5 mg strength in many markets)

Consume Type
Oral tablet — take by mouth, swallow with water; tablets should be taken whole.

Directions / Usage

  • The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily; if tolerated and symptoms persist, the dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily.
  • Tablets can be taken with or without food and at the same time each day.
  • If you take a dose and then miss the next, take the next dose at its usual time; do not take two doses.
  • Duration: treatment is usually long-term to maintain effect; your doctor will review regularly.

Common Side Effects

Some of the more common side-effects include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Blurred vision or other vision disturbances
  • Headache
  • Urinary tract infection

Serious side-effects (though less common) include urinary retention (inability to empty bladder), heat-intolerance or decreased sweating (leading to overheating), angioedema (swelling under skin) and QT interval prolongation (heart rhythm effect).

Package Type

Film-coated tablets in blister packs or bottles. Example: 10 mg tablets, round, film-coated, light pink in one listing, bottle of 30 tablets.

Storage Advice

  • Store at controlled room temperature (e.g., around 20–25 °C) unless otherwise specified.
  • Keep the container/tabs in original packaging, protect from moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use after expiry date.

Safety Advice

  • Do not use if you have urinary retention, gastric retention (slow stomach emptying), uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B); in such cases the 10 mg dose may not be appropriate or is contraindicated.
  • Inform your doctor about other medications you take; solifenacin is metabolised by CYP3A4 and interacts with strong inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole) — in that case a lower dose (5 mg) may need to be used.
  • Because of possible blurred vision/drowsiness, avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the drug affects you.
  • Anticholinergic effects: decreased sweating can lead to overheating in hot environments — monitor especially in hot climate.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding: safety not fully established — discuss with your healthcare provider.

Product Substitutes

  • Generic solifenacin tablets (same active ingredient) are available in many markets.
  • Other medications for overactive bladder include other antimuscarinics (e.g., oxybutynin, tolterodine) or β3-adrenergic agonists (e.g., mirabegron) — under physician choice.
Always use substitutes only under medical advice due to differing side-effect profiles.
