Description:

Stagyl 1 gm is a single-dose, high-strength secnidazole tablet used for the rapid and complete treatment of bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, intestinal amoebiasis, liver amoebiasis, giardiasis, and other anaerobic bacterial & protozoal infections. One tablet is often sufficient to cure the infection.

Active Ingredients/Composition:

• Secnidazole 1000 mg (1 gram) per tablet.

Variant:

• 1 gm (1000 mg) film-coated tablet (higher strength than the regular 500 mg Stagyl).

Consume Type:

• Oral.

Directions/Usage:

• Adults: 2 tablets of 500 mg OR 1 tablet of 1 gm as a single dose (usually taken with or after food).
• For trichomoniasis: Both sexual partners should be treated simultaneously.
• For bacterial vaginosis: Single 1 gm (or 2 × 500 mg) dose.
• For amoebiasis/giardiasis: Single 1 gm dose (sometimes repeated after 3–5 days if needed). Take with a glass of water; do not crush or chew.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, metallic/bitter taste, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, coated tongue, loss of appetite. Rare but serious: Allergic reactions, seizures, peripheral neuropathy (with prolonged use), leukopenia.

Storage Advice:

• Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Safety Advice:

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48–72 hours after (disulfiram-like reaction: flushing, vomiting, tachycardia).
• Contraindicated in 1st trimester of pregnancy and in patients with history of blood dyscrasias or active neurological disorders.
• Use with caution in 2nd/3rd trimester and during breastfeeding (secnidazole passes into milk).
• Not recommended in children < 12 years for this strength.
• May potentiate warfarin (increased bleeding risk).
• Do not drive or operate machinery if dizzy.
