Description:

Symbicort 80/4.5 Turbuhaler is a combination inhaler containing budesonide (an inhaled corticosteroid) and formoterol fumarate dihydrate (a long-acting beta₂-agonist). It is used for the maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to improve lung function and prevent symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath.

Prescription:

  • Prescription-only medication.​

Dosage:

  • Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older): The usual dose is 2 inhalations twice daily (morning and evening). The dosage may be adjusted based on the severity of the condition and the patient’s response to treatment.

  • Children (6 to 11 years): The safety and efficacy have not been established for this age group with this specific dosage; consult a healthcare provider.

Directions/Usage:

  1. Preparation: Unscrew and remove the cover. Hold the inhaler upright with the red grip down.

  2. Loading Dose: Twist the red grip as far as it will go in one direction, then twist it back in the opposite direction until it clicks. This loads the dose.

  3. Inhalation: Exhale gently away from the device. Place the mouthpiece between your teeth without biting and close your lips around it. Inhale deeply and forcefully through your mouth.

  4. Post-Inhalation: Remove the inhaler and hold your breath for about 10 seconds or as long as comfortable. Exhale slowly.

  5. Rinse Mouth: After use, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out to reduce the risk of oral thrush.​
