Description:

Xalatan 0.005% Eye Drops are a prescription medication used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Therapeutic Category: 

Antiglaucoma agent (Prostaglandin F2α analogue).

Active Ingredients/Composition: 

Each milliliter of Xalatan contains 50 micrograms of latanoprost. One drop delivers approximately 1.5 micrograms of latanoprost.

Vitamins and Minerals: 

Xalatan does not contain added vitamins or minerals.

Variant: 

Available as a 0.005% ophthalmic solution.

Consume Type: 

Topical ophthalmic administration.

Directions/Usage:

• Dosage: Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening. Do not exceed the recommended dosage, as more frequent administration may reduce the intraocular pressure-lowering effect.
• Administration: 
• If using other topical ophthalmic drugs, administer them at least five minutes apart.

Common Side Effects:

• Increased brown pigmentation of the iris.
• Darkening of the eyelid skin.
• Eyelash changes (length, thickness, pigmentation).
• Eye irritation (burning, stinging, itching).
• Conjunctival hyperemia (redness).
• Blurred vision.

These side effects are generally mild. However, if they persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.

Package Type: Supplied in 2.5 mL clear plastic bottles with a dropper tip and screw cap. Each bottle contains approximately 80 drops.

Storage Advice:

• Unopened Bottles: Store in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F).
• Opened Bottles: Store at room temperature up to 25°C (77°F) and use within four weeks.
• Protect from light and keep out of reach of children.

Safety Advice:

• Hypersensitivity: Do not use if allergic to latanoprost or any other ingredients in the formulation.
• Eye Color Changes: May cause gradual brown pigmentation of the iris, which could be permanent.
• Eyelash Changes: May cause gradual changes to eyelashes, including increased length, thickness, and pigmentation.
• Contact Lenses: Remove contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before use.
