INDICATIONS
infections due to susceptible organisms including, Upper and Lower Respiratory Tract Infections; Urinary Tract Infections, Severe Systemic Infections; Skin and Soft Tissue Infections, Venereal Infections, Pelvic Infectious Disease; Gynecological Infections, Puerperal Sepsis and Septic Abortion.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to ampicillin or any of the components of this preparation
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
It is administered by injection of usual doses of 500mg every 4-6 hours intramuscularly, or it may be given by slow intravenous over 3 to 5 minutes or by infusion.
Adults and children over 12 years
2g per day to be given IM or IV in divided doses. Maximum of 8g per day or as prescribed by the physician.
ADDED INFORMATION
Prolonged use of antibiotics may promote an overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. The possibility of superinfection with pathogenic mycoses of bacteria must be borne in mild during treatment. If superinfection occurs, appropriate measures should be taken.
WARNING
Serious and occasional fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy. If an allergic reaction occurs, the drug should be discontinued and appropriate therapy should be initiated.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Skin rashes (generally either urticarial or maculopapular), diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, thrombocytopenia, pseudomembranous colitis has been reported.
