Description:

Carvedi Denk 6.25mg is a carvedilol tablet used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic stable angina (chest pain due to reduced blood flow to the heart), and mild to moderate chronic heart failure (to improve survival and reduce hospitalization risk). It is a non-selective beta-blocker with additional alpha-1 blocking activity, which helps relax blood vessels and reduce heart workload.

Prescription:

  • Prescription required; consult a physician before use.

Therapeutic Category:

  • Beta-blocker / Alpha-1 blocker (non-selective adrenergic antagonist with vasodilating properties; used in cardiovascular conditions).

Active Ingredients/Composition:

  • Carvedilol 6.25 mg per tablet.

Variant:

  • 6.25 mg film-coated tablet (lowest strength in the Carvedi Denk range; other strengths include 12.5 mg and 25 mg).

Consume Type:

  • Oral (tablet form).

Directions/Usage: Take 1 tablet (6.25 mg) twice daily (every 12 hours), with food to reduce the risk of dizziness and improve absorption.

  • Hypertension: Start at 6.25 mg twice daily; may increase gradually to 25 mg twice daily if needed.
  • Heart failure: Start at 3.125 mg twice daily (split tablet if necessary), titrate slowly every 2 weeks to target 25 mg twice daily (max 50 mg twice daily in severe cases). Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. Dose adjustments are needed in elderly, liver impairment, or low body weight. Regular blood pressure and heart rate monitoring required.

Common Side Effects:

  • Dizziness/lightheadedness (especially first dose or dose increase), fatigue, headache, bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypotension (low blood pressure), nausea, diarrhea, weight gain (fluid retention in heart failure), cold hands/feet. Rare but serious: worsening heart failure, bronchospasm (in asthmatics), masking hypoglycemia symptoms in diabetics, or severe bradycardia.

Package Type:

  • Blister strip of 14 or 28 tablets (common pack sizes in Ghana pharmacies).

Storage Advice:

  • Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister/packaging. Keep out of reach of children.

Safety Advice:

  • Contraindicated in bronchial asthma, severe bradycardia (<50 bpm), sick sinus syndrome, 2nd/3rd degree AV block (without pacemaker), cardiogenic shock, decompensated heart failure requiring IV inotropes, severe hepatic impairment, or hypersensitivity. Use caution in diabetes (may mask hypoglycaemia), peripheral vascular disease, Raynaud’s phenomenon, thyrotoxicosis, or with other heart-slowing drugs (e.g., digoxin, verapamil). Do not stop suddenly (risk of rebound hypertension or angina). Avoid in pregnancy (Category C—potential fetal harm) and breastfeeding (passes into milk). Monitor heart rate, blood pressure, and liver function regularly. Report severe dizziness, shortness of breath, or swelling immediately.
