CEFTRIAZONE/ROCEPHINE INJ 2G AMP

Why do you need to give this medicine? This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections and for surgical prophylaxis. It is used for gonorrhea and syphilis, chronic bronchitis, and Lyme disease.

INGREDIENTS

Each ampule contains 2g of Ceftriaxone sodium

ADDED INFORMATION

This product contains 169.1 mg of sodium per 2g of ceftriaxone.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Known allergy to cephalosporins

Known allergy to lidocaine

DOSAGE

Adults and children over 12, with weight >50kg :

1-2g daily

Max dose is 4g

For treatment of gonorrhea: 500mg single dose

Infants and children 12 and below, with weight <50kg:

50-80mg/kg body weight daily, up to 100mg/kg daily

Max dose is 4g

Newborns(0-14 days):

20-50mg/kg

Max dose: 50mg/kg body weight

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS 

This drug may cause pain at the injection site, white blood cell abnormalities, rash, diarrhea. Report to the pharmacist or physician if side effects worsen or last more than a few days.

WARNING

Talk to your healthcare provider before being given rocephin if you: have recently received or are receiving calcium containing product, have liver or kidney problems, are on  low sodium diet, or have experienced symptoms of angioedema( rash, red skin, blistering of the mouth, lips and eyes, peeling skin, etc)

STORAGE

Do not store above 30oC. Keep vial in outer carton to protect from light.
