Description:
Chlorpromazine 25mg/ml Injection is a typical (first-generation) antipsychotic medication used to treat severe psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, mania in bipolar disorder, acute psychosis, severe agitation, and intractable hiccups. It is also used as an antiemetic (to control severe nausea and vomiting) and for preoperative sedation. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain and has additional anticholinergic, antihistaminic, and alpha-adrenergic blocking effects.

Consume Type:

- Psychosis/agitation: 25–50 mg IM every 3–4 hours as needed (max initial 100 mg/day; titrate carefully).

Common Side Effects:
- Drowsiness/sedation, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, orthostatic hypotension, extrapyramidal symptoms (tremor, rigidity, akathisia), tardive dyskinesia (with long-term use), weight gain, photosensitivity, and nasal congestion. Serious: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, severe hypotension, QT prolongation, agranulocytosis, seizures, or anaphylaxis.

Storage Advice:

- Contraindicated in coma, severe CNS depression, bone marrow depression, severe hypotension, or known hypersensitivity (including sulfite allergy). Monitor for extrapyramidal symptoms, QT prolongation, and blood dyscrasias. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants. Pregnancy: Category C (use only if benefits outweigh risks). Breastfeeding: Avoid (passes into milk). Report fever, muscle rigidity, confusion, or severe allergic reactions immediately. Not for subcutaneous use.
