CIPROFLOXACIN INFUSION
This medication is used in adults to treat the following bacterial infections: respiratory tract infections, long-lasting or recurring ear or sinus infections, urinary tract infections, infections of the testicles, genital organ infections in women, gastrointestinal tract infections and intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, to treat infections in patients with a very low white blood cell count (neutropenia), to prevent infections in patients with a very low white blood cell count (neutropenia), to prevent infections due to the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis, and anthrax inhalation exposure.
INGREDIENTS
Each 1ml of solution contains 2mg of ciprofloxacin.
ADDED INFORMATION
Added ingredients include 20% lactic acid solution, glucose monohydrate, concentrated hydrochloric acid, and water for injections. Your doctor will administer each dose slowly via infusion into a vein for children over a duration of 60 minutes. For adult patients, the infusion time is 60 minutes for 400 mg of Ciprofloxacin and 30 minutes for 200 mg of Ciprofloxacin. The slow administration of the infusion helps prevent immediate side effects.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to quinolones.
Concurrent use with tizanidine.
DOSAGE
For adults,
By IV infusion, 400mg every 8-12 hours, to be given over 60minutes.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
This drug may cause nausea, diarrhea, joint pains in children, hyperactivity or agitation, headache, dizziness, sleeping problems, or taste disorders. Report to the pharmacist or physician if side effects worsen or last for more than a few days.
WARNING
Talk to your doctor if:
You have a G6PD deficiency
You have suffered epilepsy or any seizure condition
You have hypoglycemic episodes or are diabetic
You have had tendon problems while taking ciprofloxacin
You have kidney related illnesses.
STORAGE
Do not store above 25oC. Following reconstitution, 2-8oC
