Prescription Only Medicine (POM)
Therapeutic Category:
Compound Opioid Analgesic (Pain Reliever).
Active Ingredients/Composition:
Each single tablet/caplet provides a total of:
- Codeine Phosphate: 30 mg (an opioid that binds to receptors in the central nervous system to alter the perception of pain).
- Paracetamol: 500 mg (a non-opioid pain reliever and fever reducer).
Variant: 30mg/500mg High-Strength clinical variant. (Lower 8mg/500mg and 15mg/500mg formulations exist but are different products).

Oral use only (swallowed whole with a drink of water).
Directions/Usage:
- Adults (over 12 years): Take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as strictly needed for severe pain.
- Strict Limits: Never exceed 2 tablets at one time, and never exceed a maximum of 8 tablets within a 24-hour window. Leave a clear gap of at least 4 hours between doses.
- Duration: Use should be restricted to the shortest timeframe possible (usually fewer than 3 consecutive days) unless explicitly directed by your clinician.
Common Side Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, constipation (highly common due to codeine), nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, or sweating.
Package Type:
A retail dispensing carton box containing blister strips totaling a 100-tablet/caplet pack (typically 10 x 10 blister sheets).
Storage Advice:
Store in its original protective packaging at a room temperature below 25°C. Keep completely shielded from moisture, direct heat, and light. Keep securely locked away from children.
Safety Advice:
- Black Box Warning / Addiction Warning: Codeine is an opioid that carries a high risk of physical addiction, psychological dependence, and tolerance if used regularly for prolonged periods. Stopping suddenly after chronic use triggers severe opioid withdrawal symptoms.
- Liver Toxicity Warning: This product contains a full therapeutic dose of paracetamol. Do not take any other paracetamol-containing products concurrently, as doing so can trigger catastrophic, fatal liver failure.
- Interactions: Avoid alcohol completely, as it severely amplifies opioid-induced respiratory depression (dangerously slowed breathing) and extreme drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medication.
- Contraindications: Strictly contraindicated in children under 12, after tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy surgery (risk of obstructive sleep apnea), and in individuals known to be ultra-rapid CYP2D6 metabolizers.
