Why do you need to give this medicine? Coartem Tablets are indicated for treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria infections due to Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) in patients 2 months of age and older with a bodyweight of 5 kg and above.
INGREDIENTS
Coartem Dispersible Tablets contain a fixed combination of 2 antimalarial active ingredients, artemether 20mg, an artemisinin derivative, and lumefantrine 120mg.
ADDED INFORMATION
The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, cherry dry flavour, croscarmellose sodium, saccharin sodium (8 mg per dispersible tablet), magnesium stearate, hypromellose, silica colloidal anhydrous, and polysorbate 80..
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Co-administration with rifampicin, carbamazepine, St John’s wort, phenytoin.
DOSAGE
Children 5kg to 15kg:
One tablet as a single initial dose, 1 tablets again after 8 hours, and then 1 tablet twice-daily (morning and evening) for the following 2 days (total course of 6 tablets).
Dissolve in about 10mls of water and administer to your child, with fatty meals.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTSÂ
Side effects are not experienced by all patients. They include headache, anorexia, dizziness, asthenia, arthralgia, and myalgia. Report to the pharmacist or physician if side effects worsen or last more than a few days.
WARNING
Avoid its use if you have QT prolongation
Do not use together with other antimalarials.
STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry place at 15 to 30oC. Protect from sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
