1. COARTERM DS TAB 80/480MG    

Why do you need to give this medicine? Coartem Tablets are indicated for treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria infections due to Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) in patients 2 months of age and older with a bodyweight of 5 kg and above.

INGREDIENTS

Coartem Tablets contain a fixed combination of 2 antimalarial active ingredients, artemether 80mg, an artemisinin derivative, and lumefantrine 480mg.

ADDED INFORMATION

This drug also contains colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and polysorbate 80.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Co-administration with rifampicin, carbamazepine, St John’s Wort, phenytoin.

DOSAGE

Adults greater than 16 years, body weight 35kg and above:

One tablets as a single initial dose, 1 tablets again after 8 hours, and then 1 tablet twice-daily (morning and evening) for the following 2 days (total course of 6 tablets).

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS 

Side effects are not experienced by all patients.  They include headache, anorexia, dizziness, asthenia, arthralgia, and myalgia. Report to the pharmacist or physician if side effects worsen or last more than a few days.

WARNING

Avoid its use if you have QT prolongation

Do not use together with other antimalarials.

STORAGE

Store in a cool, dry place at 15 to 25oC. Protect from sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
