Description
Daktarin Oral Gel is an antifungal medicated gel used to treat fungal (yeast) infections in the mouth and throat, especially oral candidosis (thrush). It contains miconazole, which kills fungus and relieves symptoms like soreness, irritation, and white patches.
Prescription

Therapeutic Category
Antifungal (imidazole class) — used for treatment of superficial fungal infections (mucosal candidiasis) of the oropharynx.

- Excipients include: glycerol, purified water, pregelatinised potato starch, ethanol, polysorbate 20 (E432), sodium saccharin, cocoa and orange flavour.
Variant
- Oral gel (liquid/gel) specifically for oral mucosal use.
- Typically supplied in 15 g aluminium tube; other sizes exist but the 15 g pack is common.

Directions/Usage
General recommended dosing (adjust per clinician instructions):
- Infants 4–24 months: ~1.25 ml (¼ measuring spoon) 4 times daily after meals; apply smaller portions directly to affected area.
Children ≥2 years & adults: ~2.5 ml (½ measuring spoon) 4 times daily after meals.
- Application: Use a clean finger or applicator to spread gel on lesions; avoid placing at the back of the throat (choking risk).
- Continue treatment for at least 7 days after symptoms clear to help prevent recurrence.
Common Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
- Mouth discomfort, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, altered/abnormal taste.
- Increased salivation or irritation at application site.
- Rarely, allergic reactions such as swelling, rash, itching, or difficulty breathing — seek urgent care if severe.
- Choking risk in infants/young children if gel is placed too far back in the mouth — place at the front.
