Description:

Skylax is an osmotic laxative containing Lactulose, used to treat constipation and hepatic encephalopathy (a liver-related brain condition). It works by drawing water into the colon, softening stools, and promoting bowel movements.

Prescription:

  • Over-the-counter (OTC)

Dosage:

  • For Constipation:
    • Adults & Children (≥14 years): 15-30ml once daily, may increase up to 60ml if needed.
    • Children (7-14 years): 10-15ml once daily.
    • Children (1-6 years): 5-10ml once daily.
    • Infants (<1 year): Up to 5ml daily (as directed by a doctor).
  • For Hepatic Encephalopathy:
    • Adults: 30-45ml, 3-4 times daily, adjusted to maintain 2-3 soft stools per day.

Therapeutic Category:

  • Osmotic Laxative
  • Ammonia-reducing agent (for liver disease treatment).

Active Ingredients/Composition:

  • Lactulose (66.7g per 100ml solution).

Consume Type:

  • Oral syrup, taken by mouth with or without food.

Directions/Usage:

  • Can be taken with water, juice, or milk to improve taste.

  • Do not mix with carbonated drinks as it may reduce efficacy.
